ASPIRE State Presidents,
Please forward the following message to TRIO Personnel in your state. It is important that all TRIO Personnel fight for TRIO funding!
As you know, the House and Senate Republican Budget Resolution agreed upon Friday, April 29, included a roughly $35 billion, five-year package of deficit reduction measures. The Education and Workforce Committee overall would be required to trim about $13 billion from programs within its jurisdiction. The Kennedy amendment to restore and increase funding for the TRIO and Gear Up programs was not included in the package. In the package, there is sufficient money to fully fund and moderately increase the appropriation for the TRIO programs. This does not mean the fight is over. THE HARD FIGHT HAS JUST BEGUN!! It is imperative that you e-mail, call, and fax your Senate and House Members in numbers that are paramount ...these contacts should start immediately and continue in full force ! If your Member has not signed on to the Congressional letters supporting TRIO, please work with parents, students, and community members to get his or her support! Every day is important! Please work hard while there is still time to secure funding for all TRIO students!! I believe in YOU...we can win this, but we must be united and respond strong! It is necessary that we bombard Washington starting today and continue to do so! Thank you.
