ASPIRE Presidents,
Please forward this e-mail to TRIO Personnel in your state.
The House will be voting by Memorial Day and the Senate will be voting by July 4 on the fate of ETS and UB. The final House vote results on the Bill Title: Congressional Budget for FY 2006, Question: Agreeing to the Conference Report was 214 Yeas and 211 Nays with 10 members not voting. The Senate vote was 52 Yeas, 47 Nays and 1 Not Voting. TRIO did not want this to pass since it didn't include the Kennedy Amendment. It is IMPERATIVE that you contact your Senators and Representatives to make them aware of the TRIO Programs in their state that are jeopardized by this outcome. Please let them know the numbers of students and families that are affected in their state. Please let them know that this Conference Report is an attack on education ....an attack on the poorest students in their state. Ask them about the cost of not educating this population who could be tax paying citizens.
