Latest information on EOC/TS Competitions
Larry Oxendine, the Director of the Office of Federal TRIO Programs in the US Department of Education, recently offered his insights into the upcoming grant competitions and developments within the federal TRIO office:
- The minimum level of funding in the EOC/TS competition will be $220,000 or a 3% increase from this year — whichever is greater
- The number of EOC and Talent Search programs will likely stay the same unless there is a significant increase in appropriations.
- The grant applications must focus on the NEED to be served. For Talent Search proposals, that means the target schools. For EOC, the geographic area to be served.
- Applications will be limited to 75 pages for Talent Search and 50 pages for EOC.
- The Department is developing a list of required objectives for the competition, with numbers to be filled in by the applications.
Oxendine announced that both Talent Search and Student Support Services will be evaluated this year by the Office of Management and Budget via the PART scores. He predicted both programs would score well, in large part due to improvements made in performance reports. New efficiency measures will be instituted by his office, Oxendine said. These will help policymakers understand “what we are getting for the money.” The efficiency measures will be calculated for each project and the information shared with each project.
