YOUR HARD WORK IS PAYING OFF!
House Appropriations Subcommittee is Expected to Restore Upward Bound and Talent Search Funding because of the ongoing massive grassroots efforts of the TRIO community, the House Labor/HHS/Education bill (which funds the TRIO programs) is expected to be introduced tomorrow with FULL restoration of funding for ALL of TRIO's pre-college programs. We will confirm this after we receive the final charts tomorrow morning.
This vote begins to reverse the Bush Administration?s efforts to eliminate Upward Bound and Talent Search.
The full House appropriations panel is scheduled to vote on June 15 and it is anticipated that they will adopt the subcommittee?s recommendations for the TRIO programs. After this vote, we will launch a national "thank you" effort to House Members on behalf of the TRIO programs.
It is expected the Senate will take action in July. With your continued efforts, we are optimistic that Senate appropriators will also agree to full restoration for the TRIO programs.
This fight is far from over. After both houses pass appropriations bills there will be a conference committee in the fall. This panel will determine the final budget for TRIO in FY2006. So we must maintain momentum and take nothing for granted. It is vital we continue to attract and retain strong bipartisan support.
