Subject: Senate Restores Upward Bound and Talent Search Funds -- 7/12/05
SENATE LABOR/HHS/EDUCATION APPROPRIATIONS SUBCOMMITTEE RESTORES FUNDING FOR ALL TRIO PROGRAMS!!!!!!
Today, the Senate Labor/Health and Human Services/Education Appropriations Subcommittee voted to restore funding for the TRIO programs to $836.5 million. This level is the same as both the FY 2005 number and the House reported number for FY 2006. This does restore money for ALL TRIO programs, including Talent Search and Upward Bound (Gear Up was also maintained at the FY 2005 level). THE FIGHT IS NOT OVER!!!! The Council is now working with the full appropriations committee to try and get $40 million in additional funds (for a total of $876.5 million). If your Senator is on the list below, please outreach to him or her on the importance the $40 million would mean to the TRIO programs in your state.
